Nancy Huber
1938-2010
It is with heavy heart and great hope that we request your prayers for the repose of the soul of Nancy Huber. Nancy passed away the morning of Saturday, August 14, 2010 in the company of family and friends. Nancy had recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer and was undergoing treatment when she developed pneumonia.
Nancy was a beloved member of NCOD and a principal founding member. She was present at the initial meeting that took place in 1971 at the ICDA convention in Baltimore, MD. Nancy knew at that time that a national office for the deaf was needed and that it should be a pastoral office. She felt in her heart that the future of pastoral work would not lie in the hands of the clergy alone but would include people of different states in life.
Nancy taught for many years at Holy Trinity School for the Deaf in Chicago. Then, in 1979, she began work as the Director of Religious Education for Deaf Children in the Archdiocese of Chicago, a position she held until June of 2008.
In January of 2008, Nancy received the Father David Walsh Pastoral Worker of the Year award presented by the National Catholic Office for the Deaf at the annual Pastoral Week Conference. Nancy's receipt of the award was featured in the June 2009 Vision Magazine and can be found on the NCOD website at www.ncod.org.
